Loyola Chicago’s loss could be Brown University’s gain in this upcoming 2021-22 men’s basketball season.

Rising junior guard Paxson Wojcik announced a commitment to the Bears on his personal Twitter page late Tuesday night.

Wojcik is a 6-foot-4-inch shooter who appeared in 45 career games for the Ramblers, helping the program back to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament in March. The left-hander averaged 2.5 points and 0.9 rebounds last season while shooting 50% from the floor in limited action.

Wojcik was a steady rotation member as a freshman, playing in 30 games and collecting 14 steals. He shot 42.1% from 3-point range and reached double figures with 10 points in an early victory over Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.  Wojcik was recruited by former Loyola Chicago coach Porter Moser, who will replace the retiring Lon Kruger at Oklahoma.

Wojcik played with Indiana prep power La Lumiere and on the Under Armour grass-roots circuit with the Illinois Wolves prior to his college career. He claimed offers from DePaul, Columbia, Dartmouth, Miami (Ohio), Indiana State and others. Wojcik also reported interest from the likes of Northwestern, Notre Dame, Harvard, Penn, Princeton and Holy Cross.

Wojcik has been exposed to the highest levels of college basketball and has local ties to the area through his father, Doug, who is the recruiting coordinator at Michigan State. He was a three-year starter for Navy and was stationed at the Surface Warfare Officer School in Newport following his graduation in 1987. Wojcik was a head coach for a combined nine seasons at Tulsa and Charleston.

Wojcik makes it a six-man recruiting class expected to join Brown for next season. Point guards Kino Lilly Jr. and Sam Klores, shooting guards Aaron Cooley and Lyndel Erold, power forward Nana Owusu-Ariane and Wojcik will add to a roster that also features debuting Providence native Noah Meren.
